Young people should consider science and technology to be an attractive career opportunity.

The children, young people and science programme is built up around four pathways: education, leisure time, vocation and evaluation and knowledge.

By focusing on vocation, our aims are:

To encourage more young people to study science or technology and, in so doing, open the door to a career in the field – our vision is that practical learning will be valued as highly as book learning. To promote development of programmes that allow students the opportunity to build and design products and solve real-world problems for local firms. To ensure that students can learn from firms about their specific job functions. To make sure parents and teachers are adequately informed about post-secondary science and technology study opportunities.

Of particular focus will be promoting science and technology as an educational and career option for girls.

Focus:

An approach to science instruction and teaching methods that motivates all students – boys and girls alike.

Closer partnerships between schools and the private sector. Better information for teachers, counsellors and parents about vocational training.
