Scholarships for junior ophthalmology researchers 2021

VELUX FONDEN is offering scholarships within ophthalmology research devoted to a medical student research year at one of the Danish universities' faculties of medicine or ophthalmological departments at the hospitals.

Promising ophthalmology research

The main theme of the scholarship project must be promising ophthalmology research that addresses issues of high importance to the ophthalmology research. Under this theme, basic research, clinical projects and interdisciplinary projects will be eligible.

The application must contain:

  • Project description (max. 5 pages incl. figures and tables, excluding references)
  • Budget and time schedule
  • Supervisor's CV (max. 1 page) and student's CV incl. grades and any publications (max. 1 page excluding list of publications)
  • Letter from host institution
  • Recommendations

Interested?

The project’s principal supervisor with academic affiliation to a Danish medical school must apply for the scholarship. The supervisor must meet the faculty criteria as principal supervisor of the research year students.

The supervisor must vouch for the project. This includes accounting for the student’s eligibility and stating how the supervisor knows the student.

VELUX FONDEN expects the scholarship project to be at a level where the results can be accepted as a scientific article in a peer-reviewed journal.

The scholarship can tie in with the student’s master thesis.

The project description must contain details of the project's background, aims, hypotheses, a project schedule, methodological specification, data materials, originality, ethics, dissemination of results and feasibility.

VELUX FONDEN's scholarship has a budget totaling DKK 145,000, with DKK 120,000 to cover salary for 12 months and max DKK 20,000 to cover operating expenses, Open Access fees and conferences.

The student must not be otherwise employed while carrying out the scholarship project. The student may receive financing to cover operating expenses from elsewhere if this does not include payroll expenses.

Application deadlines:

Applications are received on an ongoing basis. However, you should expect a case processing time of 3-4 months.

(An expert panel and the boars will review the applications).
