Please note: Application deadline has passed (28 August 2017)
The objective of the programme is to promote youth interest in science and technology and safeguard the new generation's general, technical and natural science education.
The aim is to enable children and young people, through the scientific process, to engage critically and creatively in knowledge-building and development in Denmark.
The total grant amount in 2017 is up to DKK 12m and we expect to fund 3-6 projects with a timeframe of up to three years; i.e. up to approximately DKK 2-4m in total for each project.
The programme has two focus areas:
A: Funding of Outreach Projects.
We wish to support previously established outreach projects in science and technology which have already documented valuable impact and are now ready to be taken to the next level. Only in exceptional cases will VILLUM FONDEN consider funding new outreach projects.
The main applicant is a Danish non-profit organisation that already supports outreach projects in science and technology. The project may involve several partners, including academic institutions in Denmark or abroad.
B: Funding of Research Projects
Funding research that has the objective to develop evidence-based approaches in designing, implementing, integrating and evaluating outreach projects with the purpose of promoting youth interest in science and technology.
The main applicant is a higher-education or research institution. The project may involve several partners, including non-profit organisations or academic institutions in Denmark or abroad.
The assessment and selection procedure is divided into three steps.
Step 1: VILLUM FONDEN’s working group for Research in Technical and Natural Sciences (TNF) evaluates the applications based on the Terms of Reference and selects about 12 applications to be evaluated by VILLUM FONDEN’s Outreach and Education Programme Committee.
The selected projects must be endorsed by the board of VILLUM FONDEN.
Applicants not selected for further evaluation will be notified. Detailed feedback is not provided to unsuccessful applicants at this stage.
Step 2: The Outreach and Education Programme Committeeevaluates the projects selected by TNF.
Step 3: Based on the recommendations, TNF will present a list of recommended projects to the board of VILLUM FONDEN.
The Board of VILLUM FONDEN will make a final decision and grant about 3-6 projects with a timeframe of up to three years.
Applicants that are not selected for funding at this stage will be notified and may receive more detailed feedback by phone.
